Merge and Crates in Become a Billionaire
Five identical units plus Gems, crate totems at map center, and a gem budget that does not dump early.
Two gem sinks sit off your Become a Billionaire plot: the merge machine on one side of the map, and the crate ring at the center. Merge turns five identical characters into a stronger copy. Crates roll totems you place on the base for stat buffs. New players spend every Gem on Basic Crates, then wonder why merges are unaffordable. This page splits the two systems and tells you which one to feed.
Walk the HUD first if you cannot find the pads: Controls and HUD points at Shop, the portal, crates, and the machine. Rebirth still comes before fancy merges. A gold unit on an unboosted plot loses to five cheap pads after a Cash Boost reset. Read the Rebirth Guide if you have not spent points yet.
Five identical copies plus Gems
The merge machine accepts five characters of the same kind and a Gem fee. You walk extras to the machine, confirm the set, pay, and receive one upgraded unit. A recorded example turned a 75B earner into a 150B gold copy: same character, doubled income, gold look. Later community notes mention diamond variants on top of gold. Treat gold and diamond as merge tiers, not separate Shop rows.
You cannot merge mixed names. Five Noobs merge. Four Noobs and a Business Bacon do not. That is why Bulk Buy on the Balance board matters later: it lets you purchase several copies of one tile in a single click so you can feed the machine without five separate Shop trips.
Gem cost scales with the unit. Early copies are cheap to fuse and weak to keep. Late copies are expensive to fuse and the reason you saved Gems. Do not burn the Forever Pack drips (+10 Gems, +25 Gems, +50 Gems, plus a Basic Crate if you watch that ad) on a first-hour merge of Noobs. Save the pile for the highest identical set you can assemble.
Gold, diamond, and why empty pads still lose
A gold merge is a slot upgrade, not a substitute for filling the plot. One 150B gold unit in a field of empty pads still loses to a full floor of mid shop characters. Merge when you already have extras sitting idle. If you have to sell your only income row to feed the machine, you are merging too early.
Knight and Samurai show up in later community lists alongside the June 2026 Sportskeeda roster (Noob through Farmer). If the live Shop has a new name, the merge rule does not change: five of that name, plus Gems. Robux units such as Guard (99 Robux), El Gato (319 Robux), and Farmer (999 Robux) follow the same five-copy rule if you choose to buy duplicates. That is optional spending, not a merge requirement.
Crate types at map center
The crate shop sits in the middle of the 6-player map, not on your private plot. Types listed in mid-2026 coverage:
- Basic Crate
- Rare Crate
- Epic Crate
- Legendary Crate
- Premium Crate
Crates consume Gems (Premium can also be a Robux skip). They unlock totems. Totems are placeable buffs, not income characters. You carry a totem back to the base and set it on a tile. If every tile is a character pad, you have nowhere to put the buff. Leave a totem tile before you open a crate you cannot place.
Some crate openings include a wait. One public session waited about five minutes for a crate to finish. If you are about to leave the server, a crate that completes while you are gone can be a better spend than three Basic Crates you open and then cannot place.
Totem placement and the tier list
Totems buff stats after they sit on the base. They do not print cash the way a Noob prints cash. Rank individual drops on the totem tier list rather than assuming Legendary Crate always beats Basic. A well-placed Basic totem on a full plot beats a Legendary totem in your inventory.
Do not dump all early Gems into crates. Treat crates as a mid-game spike after Cash Boost is moving and you have a free tile. Forever Pack’s +Basic Crate ad is a drip, not a reason to open every crate on the ring.
Gem budget after the first hour
Split Gems into two buckets once the tutorial Noob is behind you. Bucket one is merge fuel for the highest identical set you can assemble. Bucket two is a single crate you can actually wait for, then a totem you have a free plot tile for. If a crate timer would finish while you are offline, that is a better spend than opening three Basic Crates you cannot place yet. If five copies of a high shop row are one Bulk Buy away, skip the crate ring and walk to the merge machine instead. Gems spent on a gold copy you will place tonight beat Gems spent on a totem you will screenshot and forget.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many characters do I need to merge in Become a Billionaire?
Five identical copies plus a Gem fee. Mixed names do not merge. Gold (and later diamond) is the upgraded result, not a separate Shop row.
Should I open crates or merge first?
Merge first once you have five copies of a unit worth boosting. Crates are a mid-game spike. Do not spend the first Gems on Basic Crates.
What do totems do?
Totems are stat buffs you place on the base after opening crates. They do not replace income characters. Rank drops on the totem tier list.
Where is the merge machine?
On one side of the map, separate from the crate ring at center and the rebirth portal on your plot. Controls and HUD maps the walk.
